Plastic Industry Fights Back, Part 2

A few months ago I noticed that retailers and plastic bag manufacturers were teaming up to counter the plastic bag ban proposals that were sweeping the country. (See my posts here and here.) MSNBC reporter Kari Huus picked up on this in an article published today.
The plastics industry ... quickly and quietly joined with retailers and other business interests and launched a successful counterattack, using lobbying muscle to quash proposed bans. In the face of the onslaught, the cities have instituted voluntary recycling programs that proponents of the bans say are ineffective and likely to remain so.
I hope this will generate some scrutiny of the activities of trade groups like the Progressive Bag Alliance (now known as the Progressive Bag Affiliates), who'll do whatever it takes to protect their profits.
